Andover’s Awesome Downtown – 6 Places to Check out Now!

Downtown Andover — February 2018

Recent conversations about the Dascomb Road Project got me thinking about how lucky Andover is to have an awesome downtown. It's the envy of surrounding communities and here are 6 downtown businesses to visit today.

1. La Mia Moda Boutique

Visit this Main Street boutique for fabulous fashion with a dose of friendly, style-savvy service.  Owner Luis Nunez  curates the most-amazing fashion pieces from the best-emerging designers in Europe and the Americas — like the  luxury-leather Väska bags at the top of this post  — and the beautiful selection of quality footwear below. Stay tuned for the launch of his Wellesley boutique.

2. Elm Square Oyster Co.

Operating under new owners since last fall, Elm Square Oyster Co.  opens for dinner and cocktails Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5pm. Head Chef Michael Sherman stayed on and continues to serve up "New" New England cuisinelike Seared Salmon with beets, red onion, pistachio, puffed rice, and yogurt — and Cinnamon & Sugar Doughnuts with apple butter. Be sure to check out Tuesday Night Oysters and sample the extensive Drink Menu.

3. Gati Thai Bistro

Across the street from Elm Square Oyster, Co. on Post Office Avenue is Gati Thai Bistro. Also under new ownership, this restaurant has a simple, clean design and promises to bring you "wicked good Thai food." Offering both a Lunch and Dinner Menu, Gati Thai Bistro is open 7 days a week, with dinner-only hours on Sunday.

4. Soul Amour

All settled into its new Main Street home, Soul Amour is a high-end shoetique for women. Owner and Andover resident Stephanie Sipley first opened doors on Post Office Avenue in 2011. Since then she's expanded to Winchester and now moved into a more prominent Andover Main Street location. Both locations offer hard-to-find boutique shoes, jewelry, clothes, and handbags. Deal Alert! When I stopped by on Tuesday, all Jack Rogers sandals were $50!

Last summer, ReVitaLive opened its vegetarian farm-to-table cafe and juice bar in Andover Village Square, directly across from Mr. Gelato Cafe (ReVitaLive also has a Newburyport location). You can dine in at the sit-down cafe with a view of the courtyard. You can also order online from their healthy menu of organic salads, bowls, desserts, snacks and more and the friendly staff will have your order ready for you to pick up ASAP. I stopped by during last Tuesday's warm spell and enjoyed a refreshing and healthy cold-pressed juice.

6. Mak & Co

Not technically downtown, but part of the nearby and emerging Historic Mill District, Mak & Co. is a new, unique home furnishings store. It's an amazing space, and I encourage you to stop by for the free-to-attend  Design Night on Wednesday, February 28th. Sip champagne and wine and have some home-design fun. Hope to see you there!

  1. Unfortunately most businesses cannot survive downtown andover. In the last 6 months there were 2 closings (brueggers bagels and greater boston running company). Someone really needs to take a close look at planning before we lose more beloved businesses.
